El actor de cabello ondulado y voz ronca es mejor recordado por sus papeles secundarios.Stander hizo su debut a los 19 en la escena y trabajó varios años en teatro y radio. Sus primeras películas fueron de Warner Bros. /Vitaphone filmados en Brooklyn (como Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle) en los tempranos 1930s.
